Nigel Noyes

I use painting, print making and photography to explore abstract image making. Running through my work is the exploration of colour and the effect of shades lying one next to another in simple shapes, strips and layers. This is painterly, studio based work using oil and acrylics, still life photography of coloured wood blocks and giclée prints of drawings made with virtual brushes and colour palettes.

After four years study in London for a BA degree in printed textiles I spent a further twenty years in that city working in the fashion and textiles industry and that experience continues to shape my work.In 1993 an invitation to become a Design Director in furnishing fabrics led to a thirteen year spell based in Sydney, Australia. When my contract ended I re-discovered a more personal creativity and studied photography and painting part time. I developed a new career in commercial and editorial photography and spent my spare time making art. After three solo painting exhibitions in Sydney, I returned to the UK in 2004 to live in Stroud. I have had several exhibitions here and taken part in many group shows and open studios.
