Rebecca Meanley

Rebecca Meanley (b. 1976) is a London-based painter whose work explores gesture, colour, and material process within the language of contemporary abstraction. A graduate of Chelsea College of Art & Design (MA Fine Art, 2003) and Nottingham Trent University (BA Hons, 1999), she creates luminous, layered surfaces using distemper, rabbit-skin glue, and acrylic inks. Her practice draws on the legacies of Joan Mitchell and Helen Frankenthaler while remaining deeply personal and physical—an exploration of how paint records thought, emotion, and time. At once expressive and meditative, Meanley’s work is both sensorial and intelligent, rooted in modernist tradition yet utterly of the present.
