Barnie Page: Curator and Consultant
Barnie Page is an art curator and consultant with more than 15 years of experience collaborating with contemporary artists, galleries, collections, and cultural organisations. His independent practice is dedicated to developing curatorial projects, exhibitions, art sales, and producing editions and books.
His recent work with Aleph Contemporary involved curating the Summer Exhibition 2024, which ran from July 6th to August 25th. This group show featured a diverse array of works, including both local artists and those from the gallery's roster, and was presented as a fundraising exhibition in support of The Long Table charity in Stroud. The show's curatorial theme was loosely inspired by the sensory memories and descriptions of summer in the West Country, drawing particularly on the spirit of Laurie Lee's Cider with Rosie. The featured artists included lucy Auge, Anthony Banks, Milligan Beaumont, Clare Bonnet, Andy Bradley, Betsy Bradley, Christy Burdock, Bob Davison, Jane Garbett, Colin Glen, Nick Grellier, Paul Grellier, Lucy Kent, Helen Kincaid, Svetlana Kornilova, Claudia Legge, Howard Mason, Andrew Miller, Polly Morgan, Joe Packer, Viviana Rossi-Caffell, Flora Wallace, and Grant Watson.
Previously, Page managed the Soho House art collection between 2017 and 2019, a significant role during which he oversaw the curation, acquisition, framing, shipping, and installation of over 2,000 artworks across 8 new Soho House sites spanning three continents in 2018 alone. He continues his work in the art world as the co-founder of Sacred Thing, an online gallery focused on producing affordable limited-edition sculptures in collaboration with various artists. He is also currently the Head of Artist Relations at Gertrude and serves as a trustee of the Forest of Dean Sculpture Trust. Page's career demonstrates a particular commitment to exploring alternative exhibition formats and examining the "friction between art and real life" by strategically positioning art outside of conventional gallery settings. He holds an MFA in Curating from Goldsmiths, University of London (2015), and a BA in Illustration from the University of Brighton (2010).
